Bald Eagle Watch

I spent Saturday morning going on an Eagle Watch at the Mississinewa River near Peru, Indiana to check out a Bald Eagle roosting site with my friend Nick who works for the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. We saw about 25 eagles, mostly from very far away. One day last year over 150 were counted at this site.

Dave + Oprah

As I sit here watching Oprah interview Stephen Spielberg and some of the cast of Lincoln on the OWN  Network I figure it's a good time to post a few images of David Letterman sitting down with Oprah at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. I didn't know what to expect of the conversation between the two but it ended up being a really intimate and serious talk focusing on Oprah's childhood and her many struggles to end up where she is now.

Barry Manilow

I photographed Barry Malinow at Bankers Life Fieldhouse for the Indianapolis Star, Friday night. The old guy still gets around, even doing a few pelvic thrusts during the three songs I was able to shoot. I think I saw a woman faint.

Outlaws MC FBI raid

The FBI conducted the largest federal raid in Indianapolis history this morning targeting the Outlaws Motorcycle Club. Over 300 agents conducted the raids and arrested over 30 people. Here are my images from the Indianapolis club raid.

Michigan City, Ind.

Went up to spend the weekend in Michigan City, Indiana this past weekend. Salmon fishing, soaking up the sun, and swimming with our dogs. Managed to shoot a few images along the way and here they are! This week I'll be shooting at the Brush Creek Ranch in Wyoming so stay tuned for images. Meanwhile give this song a listen by the great Johnny Cash about Michigan City, Ind. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H74mXbpwQ9I

Indiana Basketball

Here are a few images from a story I photographed for the New York Times that ran Sunday March 24. The story focused on the Anderson Indiana basketball team and the former arena the Wigwam. This was the first season in 50 years that Anderson High School did not play in the 9,000-seat Wigwam due to high maintenance costs and falling attendance. Many local residents are angry that the Wigwam has closed and are reluctantly going to the renovated high school gym to watch the games.

Golf Course Management Shoot

Early this month I had a shoot for Golf Course Management magazine at a course in Noblesville, Ind. The focus of the article was on Gary Myers the course superintendent. Here is how they used the image.

Abandoned Indiana Factories

Here is a sample of work from a personal project on local factories in Muncie, Indiana, a once booming industrial town home to large corporations and factories such as Ball Corporation, BorgWarner, General Motors, ABB, Indiana Steel and Wire, to name a few. Now all that remains of these once thriving businesses is the shell of the buildings they once occupied.

On Assignment: Chow Hound

One of my favorite things to do lately at The Star Press is when we go and film/ shoot an episode of "Chow Hound" we go around to different local area restaurants. Some are good, some not so good, some downright bad. Last week was a really good one at a new Thai place in town. We don't get a lot of good ethnic foods here in Muncie so when we do, we flock to them. The owner kept bringing out dish after dish all of them delicious. Pictured below is the red curry, chicken fried rice, and the aftermath.

The weather this week has been great, with highs in the 70's. Driving back from an assignment I was pleased to find these two guys painting the side of a building in downtown, Muncie.

Storm Damage

We get plenty of storms here in Muncie, Indiana but not many at this time of year.  This storm hit around 10:30 a.m. but no one knew about any damage, not even the emergency services, until around 1 p.m. At least one tornado touched down and damaged a few houses and uprooted a bunch of trees.

On Assignment: Barn Fire

One of my favorite images of the year so far. This was a barn fire that I showed up late to with firefighters just putting out hot spots. It often pays off to stick around a bit longer than you normally would and look at a scene from a different perspective.

Sandhill Cranes

I went up to Jasper-Pulaski Fish and Wildlife Area this week to check out the Sandhill Crane migration. What an amazing site to see thousands of these birds come to one field at the same time in the evening.
