Decided at the last minute to go and shoot some Butler basketball last night. Here are some images from their win over Green Bay.

Arizona

I took a quick trip with my wife this past weekend to Arizona to visit my parents who just moved to Scottsdale. I was able to shoot a few images during the short time we had. One of the things I love about Arizona is that the climate and scenery varies so much in a short time. Cactus and palm trees in Phoenix, snow, mountains, and red rock, a couple hours north in Sedona. I'm sure I'll be visiting often and I am looking forward to exploring the rest of the state.

Butler vs Gardner-Webb

Another Butler post... this from last Wednesday's game against Gardner-Webb at Hinkle Fieldhouse. Butler was down 17 after the first half but managed to come back and win by 2.

It was great to find one of my images from the first Butler home game run on Sports Illustrated online. Here is a screen shot of the image.

Golf Course Management Shoot

Early this month I had a shoot for Golf Course Management magazine at a course in Noblesville, Ind. The focus of the article was on Gary Myers the course superintendent. Here is how they used the image.

NCAA Presidential Retreat

I just left my newspaper job and moved down to Indianapolis to start a freelance career. My first job this week was working for the NCAA shooting the presidential retreat in Indianapolis. The retreat was a gathering of over 60 Division I university presidents to discuss college athletics including all the rules and regulations, and what they can all do to to streamline things. I was pretty limited as far as what I could shoot and it consisted mostly of shooting the presidents as they left the meeting and arrived to the meeting.
Here are a selection of images from the event.

Misc. Recents

It's been awhile since I have posted but I have had a lot going on. Got married, my wife got a great new job  as an RN in the OR at Riley Children's Hospital in Indianapolis, I am leaving newspaper life to start a new job in Indy and we are trying to quickly find a place to live! Anyway back to pictures. Here are a few of my favorites since the last posting.

Engagement

I had a really great engagement shoot with AJ and Courtney this past weekend. AJ is a farmer so what better setting than a farm as the sun goes down.

Bonzi Wells

A couple of weeks ago I had an assignment to go over to former NBA player Bonzi Wells' home and shoot some portraits of him. Bonzi has had a pretty bad reputation here in his hometown of Muncie, Ind. and he is working hard to change his reputation and show the community he has matured. He was very candid as he took a reporter and me on a tour of his home showing us every room, including his closets, and storage areas. I ended up shooting this main portrait on a couch in his bedroom.

Europe May 2011

My dad took me on a quick trip to Europe last month before I get married in a couple of weeks. We crammed a lot into 7 days including overnights in Ieper (Ypres) Belgium where we toured some WWI sites and learned a lot about the war. Bruges, Paris, Antwerp, and Amsterdam. We took trains to the various towns and cities and our trusty legs provided the rest of the transportation. Needless to say we did a lot of walking. It was a great trip and one I'll always remember. Here are a few images.

Indiana Storm Outbreak

Another exciting day chasing storms in Indiana with SWATchasers We headed down to southern Indiana and got on some really powerful supercell thunderstorms with rotating wall clouds. Chasing storms is a rush and I am very glad I was with the guys I was with to get us into the right places and keep us safe. We got into a scary few minutes when we got stuck right in the middle of a storm that produced a tornado, and had very strong winds and large hail pounding the car but came away unscathed.

On Assignment: Walk in the Woods

I knew it would be a good day when one of my assignments was to go for a walk in the woods. The area I was sent to is a new piece of land acquired from the Girl Scouts and will be turned into a nature area and community woodlands. However the area is infested with the invasive Asian Bush Honeysuckle that is destroying woodlands by shading out the ground preventing other plants from growing.

Storm Chasing

I had the chance to tag along with a group of storm chasers and meteorologists from the newly formed Severe Weather Alert Team (SWAT) based in Indiana. Tuesday April 19 we headed for Illinois where the area looked great for a storm outbreak. As storm chasers from around the country descended on the area the weather models looked better and better. We chased the storms for about six hours getting caught in hail storms and battling the crappy Illinois back roads. We missed out on seeing a tornado but did see some great storms and funnel clouds. I'm excited to go back out when another round of severe weather hits the area. You can check out the SWAT website here: SWATchasers

Abandoned Indiana Factories

Here is a sample of work from a personal project on local factories in Muncie, Indiana, a once booming industrial town home to large corporations and factories such as Ball Corporation, BorgWarner, General Motors, ABB, Indiana Steel and Wire, to name a few. Now all that remains of these once thriving businesses is the shell of the buildings they once occupied.

On Assignment: Muncie Gras

Muncie, Indiana has it's own version of Mardi Gras (granted, almost two weeks later due to cold March temperatures). Not nearly as big as the real Mardi Gras but a good party nonetheless.

On Assignment: Chow Hound

One of my favorite things to do lately at The Star Press is when we go and film/ shoot an episode of "Chow Hound" we go around to different local area restaurants. Some are good, some not so good, some downright bad. Last week was a really good one at a new Thai place in town. We don't get a lot of good ethnic foods here in Muncie so when we do, we flock to them. The owner kept bringing out dish after dish all of them delicious. Pictured below is the red curry, chicken fried rice, and the aftermath.

Winter Wedding

I was a little concerned before the wedding started as it snowed all morning totaling about five inches. Adam and Kara were great and braved the weather to shoot some pictures outside. I have never seen a bride wear long johns before.

Sword Swallower Dan Meyer

Sword Swallower Dan Meyer stopped by the Star Press studio a couple of weeks ago. Dan is an interesting character and was a lot of fun to shoot and chat with.  Dan is one of only a handful of remaining sword swallowers and has set numerous Guinness world records.
It was gut wrenching watching him swallow various things, including several swords and a pair of hedge clippers. Everyone in our small packed studio were all hoping it wouldn't turn into a major clean up operation.

Winter Weather

It's been a long week and a half dealing with ice, snow, and freezing temperatures. The last time the grass was visible here was New Years Eve. I really need a vacation somewhere warm to get me in a happier mood. This winter seems to be dragging on forever.

The National Guard was called in to help ambulances reach their "customers."

Fire

While I wait for the ice storm to start i'm posting images from a large fire at a longtime business near downtown Muncie. Things were pretty chaotic at the start until they figured out how to get the blaze under control. Stay tuned for ice storm pictures starting tomorrow.

Chicago

I went up to Chicago to spend a night photographing a friends engagement this past weekend. Here are a couple of scenes I shot while on a freezing cold walk.
